Product details

When the weather goes wild — and here it often does —, the BINDY WATERPROOF JACKET is here to save the day. Designed for damp days and cool seasons, with a real cocoon feel thanks to its ecru imperméable lining.

The technique of a rain shell

The outer fabric is water-repellent and above all waterproof 4000 mm. That figure is the water pressure the membrane holds before letting a drop through — 4000 mm is enough for sustained rain (technical outdoor requirements start around 3000 mm). You stay dry when it pours.

And as we don't want to end up in a sauna, it stays comfortable with 3000 g/m²/24h breathability — body moisture evacuates instead of stagnating inside. That's what makes the difference between a sweaty "plastic jacket" and a real technical jacket.

The warm inside

The sleeves are taffeta-lined and padded to keep warmth where needed. The ecru imperméable lining covers the body and hood for the cocoon feel as soon as you put it on.

Practical side: recycled waterproof zip with double recycled metal pulls, side zipped pockets, inner heart pocket, 3-panel adjustable hood with drawstring and recycled stoppers.

Fit & sizing

Regular unisex cut, designed for layering. Wear it over a simple tee or over a sweater/sweat — the cut leaves room for layering. For a very fitted wear, size down. For a more oversize look, size up.

Available from XS to XXL (to confirm). If in doubt, write to hello@bindy.world.

Fabric & commitments

100% post-consumer recycled polyester — outer and imperméable lining. Certifications: Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and PETA-approved Vegan.

Post-consumer recycled polyester comes from PET (bottles, plastic waste) transformed into fibre. It's the responsible alternative to virgin polyester — less oil extraction, valorising existing waste.

Who is this jacket for?

For anyone living in a damp climate — typical Belgian climate: sustained rain multiple times a week, wind, dropping temperatures. It's the jacket that follows you daily: work commute, market run, walk, after-session on the dike, van weekend. You can also take it on outdoor trips (hiking, cycling, festival) — 4000 mm covers all usual cases except extreme alpinism.

Care

  • Wash 30°C synthetic cycle, zip closed
  • No tumble dryer
  • No ironing
  • No fabric softener — it compromises water-repellency
  • No bleach
  • Re-proof with a spray or wash-in water-repellent every 12-18 months to preserve the water-repellent effect

Well-cared, a technical waterproof jacket lasts 5-7 years with decent water-repellency. The inner membrane itself easily lasts 10 years.

Frequently asked questions

It's the water column rating — the water pressure (in mm) the membrane can hold before leaking. 4000 mm = suitable for normal sustained rain (technical outdoor standards start at 3000 mm). It's right for typical Belgian climate. For high mountain or tropical rain, you'd need 10,000+ mm — that's a different segment.

It's the moisture (water vapour) evacuation rate through the membrane. 3000 g/m²/24h is a correct level for daily use (city, walks, light cycling). For more intense sports (long hikes, trail), you'd look for 5000+. Here it's a lifestyle/outdoor jacket, not a technical alpine shell.

Both pieces are complementary. The SHERPA (#65 or #66) keeps warm when it's dry and cold. The WATERPROOF (this jacket) keeps dry when it rains. Here, the waterproof already has an integrated imperméable lining so you get both functions in one — warm + rain. It's the main Belgian winter piece. If your budget allows, also get a imperméable vest #66 for dry and cold days when you don't need the shell.

Regular unisex cut designed for layering. Take your usual size — the cut already leaves room for a sweater or hoodie underneath. To wear a thick sweater additionally, size up. If in doubt, write to hello@bindy.world.

Three rules: (1) wash 30°C synthetic cycle, zip closed, no fabric softener (it clogs the membrane pores). (2) No tumble dryer or direct ironing. (3) Re-proof every 12-18 months with a water-repellent spray or wash-in (Nikwax, Granger's). With those habits, the jacket holds its 4000 mm for years.

Yes — recycled polyester outer, recycled polyester imperméable lining, padded taffeta sleeves (synthetic). Recycled plastic zip, metal for pulls only. PETA-approved Vegan. Zero animal component.
